Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Sheep breeders

Pedigree Blue Faced Leicester Sheep

‘We breed rams with good confirmation and wool from traditional bloodlines.’

The Mendick Bluefaced Leicester flock was founded in 1993 with the intention of breeding rams for our own use on our flock of Blackface ewes when it was decided to discontinue breeding pure Blackfaces.

Bluefaced Leicester Ram Lambs

The flock has expanded over the years but the best ram lambs are still used to mate with our own ewes in their first year. All of the ram lambs are overwintered and offered for sale as shearlings at the Kelso Ram Sales or Lanark in September or October. A few may be sold privately at home.

Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Breeding Programme

Because of the prolificacy of the Bluefaced Leicester sheep we are able to implement a very strict culling policy for breeding with any surplus being sold commercially.

We are trying to concentrate on breeding rams with good confirmation and wool from traditional bloodlines. These are suitable for crossing with any breed of hill ewe the length and breadth of the UK.
