‘We breed quality highland ponies with good temperaments.’
The Mendick Highland Pony Stud was founded in the early 1970s with the purchase of two mares from the Dalbrack dispersal. This was quickly followed by the purchase of “Jess of Whitefield” from the late George Baird. This mare gave us our first taste of success in the show-ring and so the seed was sown.
South Slipperfield Farm
Our farm extends to 900 acres rising to 1500 feet.
We breed between two and four foals per year and run them on with a view to selling them by 3 years old. We like to show the foals at winter shows as this proves to be a real learning curve from which they don’t forget. After this they are turned away to the hill to mature naturally. We are particular about breeding quality highland ponies but even more importantly they must have good temperaments and this we feel that we have achieved.
